I’ll Never Understand Why Some Christians..
I’ll never understand why some Christians tell me I can’t wear a cross around my neck if Jesus is on it.
They say, “Don’t you know He got off that cross?”
Of course I know this. Of course I believe this. But why is my necklace the thing you choose to poke at. Why do you ask me this question before asking me “why” do I choose to wear something like this?
Well, let me tell you. I chose to wear this necklace because it reminds me of what He did for me. It reminds me of what I didn’t have to go through. It reminds me of my Uncle Ray who gave it to me.
Why does my accessory choice need any type of input from you? Is there no one else you could be helping right now? Am I just someone who doesn’t “look like” a Christian so I am free game to be picked a part.
I understand the call for people to be teachers and apostles in the church. I also understand the last commandment that Jesus spoke that we should love God and love others.
Is slamming my necklace really “loving me”? No, not loving the person “your” version of Christianity said I should be. Do you actually love me?
I apologize if my jet black hair and black painted nails offends you. I’m sorry if I’m not the idea you have when you think about how a “Christian lady should act” and I am very sorry that I ever let some of your influence trickle down on me as in the way I’ve parented my own children.
I will not embrace and pass on the same dogmatic teachings that I was subjected to for years in certain sects of the church. We are moving on.
If you’re reading this and have had the same thing happen to you, from the deepest parts of my being, on behalf of the Christians, I am truly sorry.
Much love,
Tia
